Education
Bachelor of Architecture from Alabama Polytechnic
(now Auburn University), 1940; Master of Architecture from Harvard University, 1947.
Career
Worked with Ralph Twitchell in Sarasota in 1941 and again from 1947 to 1952. They had wide influence as leaders of the "Sarasota School" of architecture. In 1957 he became head of the Department of Architecture at Yale University. He left Yale in 1965 and moved his office to New York City.
Known for
The Walker Guest House on Sanibel, many modern residences, including the Hiss Residence "The Umbrella House" in Sarasota, the Healy Guest House "The Cocoon House" in Sarasota (with Ralph Twitchell), and the Milam residence in Jacksonville. Internationally famous as a leader of the Sarasota School and for many large projects all over the world, including the Yale Art & Architecture Building, the Colonnade Condominiums in Singapore, and the Wisma Dharmala Sakti Building in Jakarta.
